Wellness Exams and Vaccines: Wellness exams are important to your horse's quality of life and well being. Many illnesses and abnormalities can be diagnosed on a routine physical examination. Each horse should have a physical examination each year. Geriatric horses may need examinations more often as more routine care is needed to maintain a good quality of life for these patients. There are many equine vaccinations available today. Deciding what vaccinations your horse needs is becoming more difficult. Take a moment to read about the vaccinations that are available and the efficacy and side effects of each, then give us a call. Not every horse needs every vaccine. We would like to help you determine what is best for your horse's situation.
Dental Procedures: We understand that your horses teeth effect more than just his body weight. Dental abnormalities can affect your horse's attitude in the arena, show ring, on the trail or even just in his stall. We have the ability to correct many of the common and more severe dental abnormalities that your horse may be experiencing. Generally some mild sedation is all that is necessary to correct any dental problems that are compromising your horses health and well being.
Surgical Procedures: We offer many surgical procedures here at our facility. Cryptorchid surgeries and umbilical hernia repairs are performed on a regular basis as well as routine castrations. Surgical repair of severe lacerations may be performed as well. We have a climate controlled indoor facility for equine work, which includes comfortable stalls for post surgical care and treatment . Complete blood counts, serum chemistries, thyroid blood levels and many other specific tests can be run in minutes at our facility. That means diagnoses are made quicker and treatments can be started immediately. If your horse requires a blood test that we do not have available in house, we have an outside laboratory that understands the need for timely results and is very accommodating. There is no need for your horse to wait longer than necessary for results that will help us to speed the recovery process. Coggins tests are sent to an outside laboratory, but in a pinch, results can be often be achieved in as little as 48 hours.
Lameness examination: These examinations evaluate the locomotion of your horse. We use a variety of techniques to identify the source(s) of lameness including physical examination, palpation, flexion tests, and joint and nerve blocks. Conventional radiography, ultrasound, and thermography help us to further evaluate the source of your horse's lameness.
Radiography: We have a high quality x-ray machine in house as well as an automatic processor. Your horse's radiographs can be taken and processed in minutes. You and your horse's veterinarian can make better decisions about care with prompt diagnostic results. There is no need to wait longer than neccesary to start treatment that may ease pain and improve performance.
Ultrasound: Ultrasound examination can be performed for many reasons. The most common is for reproductive examinations and pregnancy diagnosis. We can also use the ultrasound to diagnose and characterize tendon injuries and soft tissue injuries. The ultrasound can be used in conjuction with other diagnostic imaging techniques to give our doctors the information necessary to determine the best treatment for your horse.
Thermography: A thermographic camera is used to determine areas of injury or inflammation in your horse. Often times it is used to determine the cause of a lameness or injury when other methods have failed.
Reproductive Services: We provide top quality equine reproductive services. If your mare is having difficulty conceiving, or if you would like to breed to a stallion that is not in the area we can help. Ultrasound examinations, uterine flushing, uterine cultures and many other services are available. We can perform artificial inseminations as well as shipped semen and embryo transfers.
Purchase Exams: We routinely conduct purchase examinations. These examinations are performed to determine if a horse is suitable for the specific purpose that he is being purchased for. Whether you are buying a horse for trail riding or three-day eventing, we can help you determine if the horse you are considering is able to perform those duties.
